A Wholesome, quality space for children under 3.5 years

The playgroups provide a supportive environment for parents and children to learn more about the Waldorf approach.

The unique feature of a Waldorf playgroup is that parents are actively involved in activities that children can imitate such as baking, sweeping, polishing, chopping food or making crafts. Children explore, play, move, and interact with one another, without losing the security of a parent.

What makes a Waldorf playgroup different from other playgroups?

The parents run the playgroup - we lead by example

  • For young children, the best form of education is to imitate parents
  • Parents perform all functions, including setting up, main activites and clearing away before moving onto the next activity
  • Simple songs are sung to signify the flow from one activity to the next
  • Each session follows the same rhythm. Children and parents alike feel secure in knowing what is to come next
  • Parents make the toys for playgroup
  • Over the course of the term, parents review and refine the content of the playgroup

Toys are home-made, natural and provide unlimited imagination

  • Popular toys are natural wood pieces, shells, silk play cloths, wool play strings, felt animals and simple dolls
  • Children are not coaxed to participate or perform activities

Promotes community spirit

  • Provides an opportunity for like-minded parents to discuss the Waldorf Steiner education in a local context
  • Parents and children form strong friendships, creating a secure home-like atmosphere
  • Children and parents often meet outside playgroup for community gatherings, play dates, cooking lessons and birthday parties!
